Financial Freedom Is A Life Style.

People must wrap their minds of the concept of Financial Freedom in it’s proper context. This is about the Life Style you choose. Financial Freedom really is a Life Style.

Sure you can be super wealthy and fly around in your private jet while your business is being handled by some management company. You can then avoid the stresses of running the day to day issues of that mighty wealth.

Otherwise, you may decide to be extremely hands on and make very sure everyone that works for you builds for you ever more assets and money. But then, you are not averse to that kind of stress. You probably revel in it.

Here, the wealth may be the same or similar, but the Life Style choice is vastly different.

But what if you are only moderately wealthy according to many standards and you still wish to achieve Financial Freedom? But the main problem is that you are approaching retirement.

There are ways to see you there. Sometimes, moving to a very low cost jurisdiction that have most of the amenities that you would expect for health and your personal welfare, modern financial centres, great schools, great modern transport and communications would be your cup of tea.

You see, I do know of people who have moved their entire lives out from the USA, Canada, UK and some other wealthy jurisdictions into countries like Panama (a tax free jurisdiction) or Thailand (a low tax jurisdiction) and actually get to live a very carefree life style.

Some would call that Financial Freedom, won’t you?

Cash Flow Problem And Seagulls.

Cash Flow Problem And Seagulls.

Question: What has your cash flow problem got to do with seagulls?
Answer: Everything and nothing.

Let me explain…this most perplexing problem never seemed to have a perfect answer. Everyone kept clamouring to be given a helping hand. That is, until I sat on a beach and watched some seagulls…

When this current recession hit, worries, laments, spending cutbacks, equity erosion, loans defaults, etc. you name it, people DO it. Remember all those cartoons about business people jumping off buildings? This is basically what people are doing to themselves.

This is their scenario:
- during the good years, they built up a mass of stuff and kept them in their mental well being.
- when the recession hits, assets get attacked and often the most leveraged will lose more.
- being ripped away from their attachments, they crash mentally too.

Does this sound like you too? I had actually looked at some of my friends’ books as they were looking for some kind of help from their extreme financial problems. I was concerned at first, but later came to realize that after so many years of building up their “needs”, all they were losing were most of their “wants”!

Hence the seagulls came into play.

“Seagulls are natural optimists without the attachment to cash and assets” – Huh? – It’s true, simply observe their behaviour and you’ll see why they are so successful (they are everywhere).

- They’ll scavenge for food and nest building materials everywhere.
- They’re smart and bum food off you if they can.
- Ever see them working together? They work in pairs or groups too.
- They’ll harrass you until you feed them and then go to the next “target or fool” for the next morsel.
- Then they’ll rinse and repeat the procedure until they can’t even walk for eating too much.
- Come tomorrow, they’ll do it all over again.
- See the pair of seagulls above? They were only a metre and a half from the camera.

Observing all that, I came to a significant realization about nature.
1) The Human “Needs” are expanded to satisfy “Wants”.
2) The Seagulls’ “Wants” only satisfy their “Needs”.
3) The former ends up hoarding while the later only use what they need.

This is nothing new. Much has already been told and written about this natural behaviour, but these seagulls do serve as a powerful reminder about balancing needs and wants.

Back to my friends and clients – I stopped worrying about them and told them to do the same. In fact, making the adjustments to their lifestyles was the most difficult thing for them to do. Managing cash flow was a responsibility they refused to do. They wanted more money! Their life style maintenance was tops in their agenda.

Could they still get on with their lives? Yes, of course. If they wished to…

You see, during a recession, it is not the lack of money being made available – governments now print even more cash to pass around. It is the lack of activity that stops the money coming to you. It’s time to emulate one of nature’s success stories.

So, do like the seagull and get moving!
