How to stack up One Trillion Dollars of $100 dollar bills

How high can you stack up One Trillion Dollars of $100 dollar bills?

We’ve all had enough of reaching the moon on a billion $1 notes and back.

So, what the heck is a trillion dollars? Is this a new invention of Mr. Obama or some super Harvard MBA from Wall Street?

To help you wrap your mind around it, here’s a very graphic comparison by Page Tutor.

What does one TRILLION dollars look like?

All this talk about “stimulus packages” and “bailouts”…

A billion dollars…

A hundred billion dollars…

Eight hundred billion dollars…

One TRILLION dollars…

What does that look like? I mean, these various numbers are tossed around like so many doggie treats, so I thought I’d take Google Sketchup out for a test drive and try to get a sense of what exactly a trillion dollars looks like.

We’ll start with a $100 dollar bill. Currently the largest U.S. denomination in general circulation. Most everyone has seen them, slighty fewer have owned them. Guaranteed to make friends wherever they go.

A packet of one hundred $100 bills is less than 1/2″ thick and contains $10,000. Fits in your pocket easily and is more than enough for week or two of shamefully decadent fun.

Believe it or not, this next little pile is $1 million dollars (100 packets of $10,000). You could stuff that into a grocery bag and walk around with it.

While a measly $1 million looked a little unimpressive, $100 million is a little more respectable. It fits neatly on a standard pallet…

And $1 BILLION dollars… now we’re really getting somewhere…

Next we’ll look at ONE TRILLION dollars. This is that number we’ve been hearing so much about. What is a trillion dollars? Well, it’s a million million. It’s a thousand billion. It’s a one followed by 12 zeros.

You ready for this?

It’s pretty surprising.

Now, I’m wondering out loud about the logistics of producing this whole pile of money:

1) There’s more electronic US dollars worldwide than there is cash by a long shot – I’m wondering if this pile was created so that US banks can go replace some of that electronic money foreigners think they have?

2) All this new money…will it be used to replace the fake ones – you know, the super counterfeits.

3) Since cash piles are growing like the RAM on computers and becoming as cheap too, perhaps a new world currency might make a better standard to follow.

4) A new gold standard is being bandied about like an old April Fools Joke in the G20 meeting. Is this another hint that gold is about to get bid up into the stratosphere like Crude Oil was just a very few short months ago?

5) Tax havens get a reprieve as long as they give enough interest free loans to the G20 to cover all their financial needs?

6) The Trillion Dollars seem like the Everest of dollar amounts currently but how long will that last like the Billion was once?

Don’t mind me…no I’m not intoxicated. It’s because of writing and reading too many April Fools Jokes today…here’s a top 10 favourite post in case you’re intrested…

  1. Wow. After seeing the stack of $10,000 I wouldnt have imagined a trillion to look so massive. This amount of money doesnt seem real. Where is all of the cash held to back up these electronic funds?

Barack Obama the best variant of the president for America. Soon elections and I will necessarily vote for it. Whatever spoke, but Barack one of the most influential figures in the world.

  6. We know from the fact that money is one of the most important thing in this world but we shouldn’t have to be greedy with money. Well, let’s just pray for it that the government will be enlighten for what they have done.

  7. That last comparison is like a few acres of stacks of hundred dollar bills, I would like to just run by and grab what I could hold onto, that would be nice :)
